“The limestone cliffs in the northern Vaucluse region of France are a world-class climbing destination. Alternately called St Léger and La Baleine (French for “the whale”), it is a massive curving wall of brown and grey rock with deceptively simple-looking routes. I can’t count the number of times I’ve fallen off a project, lunging for what looked like a decent handhold and turned out to be a nubbin, or nothing at all. St Léger was my favorite crag in three years of climbing in Europe, and I hope the namesake hat or cowl will become your favorite cold weather project this year!” – Mary Joy Gumayagay
